Daisy Star Crochet Earrings

Crochet earrings

There's a drawer in my home where I keep all sorts of objects that are meant to become part of a crochet project one day, or so I say to myself. It is a very random collection of bamboo sticks, sea glass, buttons of all shapes and materials, beads, silver chains, ribbon and even a clock movement (!?), among other things.

It was in this drawer where I found two pairs of hoop earrings that had been patiently waiting to get a crochet makeover. Unlike most of the other beautiful little objects in that drawer, one afternoon they did become part of an awesome crochet project.

The Daisy Star earrings are gorgeous, lightweight, and great for the summer. They are made with mercerised lace or 2 ply cotton yarn; I love to work with this type of yarn as it is glossy and smooth, and it comes in so many different colours.

Materials

To make these earrings, you will need:

A small amount of 2 Ply / Lace mercerised cotton yarn in two contrasting colours.

A 1.5mm hook

One or more pairs of hoop earrings that are around 5.5cm in diameter

A bit of clear nail polish

Stitches

Chains

Slip Stitch

Single Crochet

Half Double Crochet

Treble

Overview

First, the flower is worked in the round and it is then attached to the hoop with a row of single crochets. Making the first few stitches around the hoop can be a bit awkward at first, but your hand soon gets the hang of it. They are definitely worth giving it a try.
